Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned an Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) located situated in Washington DC. In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 debates between George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy news stories throughout time, including fiscal reform, the budget, and The Iran Contra saga. She traveled frequently with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
